Jamie Dimon for POTUS

He's tough.
He's brilliant.
He understands domestic and international economics and politics.

An all-day rain

Just lounging around the living room, staring out the windows, watching the birds and rabbits foraging and frolicking .  Far too wet out there for me to do any yard and garden work.

My pinnacle of productivity today was cleaning toilets.

Memorial Day Tribute to Joe Ziel and John Luttrell, both Lake Zurich High School alum.

It went up just before midnight with a full spotlight.
It will come back down at midnight tonight.

----------------------

Two genuinely nice guys who were also genuinely tough guys when they needed to be.
Both were taken from us far too soon.
It was a small high school in a small town; we all knew each other.

Forever remembered.

Range Day 05/14/2024 @ 5 Star Firearms in Zion Illinois

S&W Model 66-3 .357 Magnum

Other than the obligatory range sessions needed for me to prep-and-qualify for my CCL renewal I had not been shooting for quite a while; the surprise-events of life kept getting in my way.

Shooting is fun; it is "ME time!" I really need to get back into the groove of shooting no less than once a month. Time at the shooting range is cathartic. It's recreational. It's skill enhancement.

The 5 Star Firearms shooting range has a special called "$10 Tuesdays" and I rarely pass up a chance to save a few $ here and there. I brought my own ammo so the total cost for range time and two targets was only $14.

I burned through 96-rounds (a 6-round revolver loaded 16-times) of American Eagle (AE38K) 130gr FMJ .38 Special (I didn't feel up to using any magnum loads today).

How did I shoot? Actually I surprised myself; I didn't start "spraying" the target until I tried rapid-fire headshots at 50-feet.

All in all it was good fun!

How did my Illinois CCL renewal qualification @ GAT GUNS turn out?

Jeez, that was back on April 12 and I'm just now getting around to writing about it.

I guess everything went just as fine and dandy as I expected it to. This was my third Illinois qualification (years 2014, 2019, and 2024); all of those quals were at GAT Guns; all of those quals were with the Safe Side Tactical instructors (former cops and / or ex-military).

GAT Guns has always been a well organized business. Seriously, when navigating anything that involves the Illinois government bureaucracy I want the best folks I can find to work with. The drive to and from Dundee is quite a distance for me but it is always worth the trip.

---------------

I have used the same handgun for all three of the Illinois quals that I have done over the years, a Glock 26 (along with 3 magazines holding 10-rounds each; 1 mag for each of the qualification distances).

I used this 9mm carry ammo to shoot this qualification. Nope, I am not now nor have I ever been a cop; this ammo is available to the public. I often practice with the defense loads that I carry.  Anyhoo, any hollow point bullet makes a much cleaner hole in the paper target than does FMJ ball and that makes it easy for the CCL instructor to tally a quick score.

It's all over and done with and I'm good for another five years.

Federal ammo company FINALLY resumed selling the 205 grain .45 ACP Syntech frangible hollowpoint ammo!

It's been unavailable for a couple of years or more.
My guess is that Federal was refining the manufacturing process during the interim.
I ordered 6-boxes (300-rounds) and picked them up yesterday.

-------------

During its introduction this ammo was only available in 20-round boxes and it was $ pricy $.

It was also *very* hard to find.

I managed to score enough of it back then to prove it to be a totally reliable self-defense load for use in my little Colt Defender.  I only had enough rounds left from that initial purchase to keep the Defender fully loaded for home defense along with one full mag as a reload.

Now I can fully charge the other spare mags and get in a couple of range sessions this summer.

Beretta Cheetah shooting range session 03/25/2022 @ 5 Star Firearms in Zion, Illinois

Burned through 181-rounds of .380 ammo.
Did not shoot particularly well at 21-feet so I moved the targets in to 15-feet with little improvement.
Trashed a lot of paper while trying.
Had fun.

Lightweight summertime concealed carry

I typically wear the above rig (over a T-shirt; harnesses and bare skin are a bad mix) under a very lightweight summer shirt provided that the heat and humidity index isn't too high.

---------

On the most unmercifully hot days of summer I will forego the aforementioned harness rig (and the requisite covering shirt needed to conceal it) and carry that same air-weight J-frame .38 inside my waistband, concealed by an untucked T-shirt.

--------

Whenever I am day tripping away from my local haunts I'll usually carry a second air-weight J-frame .38 in a pocket of the pants or shorts that I'm wearing.
